What Jet2 accepts as proof for an expenses claim

Jet2's delays and disruptions page, read on 17 September 2026, says any claims must be supported by an itemised receipt and that it cannot accept bank statements as proof of purchase. It also names five expense types, including car parking and loss of earnings, that it will not consider at all.

Does Jet2 accept a bank statement as a receipt?

No. Jet2's delays and disruptions page, read on 17 September 2026, carries one sentence that decides most expenses claims, Any claims must be supported by an itemised receipt. We cannot accept bank statements as proof of purchase. Nothing beside it offers an exception or names an alternative document.

That matters because the statement is the fallback almost everyone reaches for. The receipt from an airport hotel bar goes into a pocket, the pocket goes into the wash, and a week later the only surviving evidence is a line showing the merchant, the date and the amount. That line proves you paid something somewhere, not what you bought.

The word doing the work is itemised. A card slip showing only a total will not do. A bill listing two mains, a soft drink and a coffee will. The itemised version is also what lets an expenses team strip out the wine and pay the rest, which is why a summary document gets refused rather than trimmed.

The upload rules are narrow too. Jet2 asks you to photograph and attach all of your receipts in JPG, PNG or PDF up to 6MB, with three documents maximum for the boarding pass and other supporting information.

What expenses can I claim from Jet2 after a delay?

Four things, and Jet2 lists them by name. The expenses that can be claimed under the Regulation are food and drink, overnight accommodation, a flight refund where your flight's departure was delayed over 5 hours and you elected not to travel and cancelled the booking, and an alternative flight after a cancellation or denied boarding.

It then narrows all four at once. Jet2 says it can only consider reasonable costs incurred during a delay or whilst awaiting the earliest alternative flight. Two words settle most arguments. Reasonable is the regulation's own test and carries no figure. During rules out anything bought before you left home or after you arrived.

The 5 hour line runs off a different clock from the compensation one. Jet2's claims page says a compensation claim needs an arrival delay over 3 hours and that the take-off delay is not considered. The expenses refund is the mirror image, a departure delayed over 5 hours, and only if you walked away. You can qualify for one and not the other, and our EU261 guide sets out both.

Which costs will Jet2 refuse outright?

Five categories, published as examples rather than a closed list. Jet2 names car parking, unused accommodation, child and pet care, missed events and loss of earnings as expenses that cannot be claimed under the Regulation, then adds one line of redirection, please contact your travel insurer.

None of it is arbitrary. Every item is a loss caused by the delay rather than a cost of being delayed. The right to care buys the sandwich and the bed, it does not make you whole on the wedding you missed or the shift you could not work. That gap is what a policy is sold to fill, which our guide to what travel insurance covers walks through, and insurers subtract whatever the airline already paid, as this post shows.

  • Car parking at the departure airport, including days a delayed return adds.
  • Unused accommodation, the night you paid for and never slept in.
  • Child and pet care, including kennel or sitter hours the delay added.
  • Missed events, concert, match, wedding or excursion tickets wasted.
  • Loss of earnings, the shifts or billable days the delay cost you.

I lost my receipts, can I still claim from Jet2?

Compensation, yes. Expenses, probably not. Both travel on the same form but rest on different evidence. Compensation is a fixed sum that turns on the flight and the delay, so it needs the booking reference and boarding pass. Expenses exist only as documents, and Jet2 has closed the one substitute most people have.

There is something worth trying first, and it is not the statement. An itemised receipt can usually be reissued by the business that printed it, because the till kept the record even though you did not.

Separate the two claims from the start. Compensation is one amount claimed once, with no receipts attached. Expenses are a pile of small documents that only exist if you created them on the night. Other carriers publish the same requirement in different words, easyJet sets a cash limit and refuses card receipts, see what easyJet pays for hotel meals.

  • Claim the compensation first. It needs no receipts and is usually the larger sum.
  • Ask the hotel or restaurant for a VAT invoice or duplicate itemised receipt, quoting the date and the card's last four digits.
  • For a room booked through a site, download the invoice from the booking record rather than forwarding the confirmation email.
  • Check your card app for a stored merchant receipt image, and keep it alongside the itemised document, not instead of it.
  • Send the bank statement only as backup to an itemised receipt, never as the receipt.
  • Photograph each receipt at the counter next time. Thermal paper fades and the form takes JPG.

How do I submit a Jet2 expenses claim?

Through the form on the delays and disruptions page, answering yes to the question about claiming expenses under the Regulation. It asks for claimant details, the flight number and date, the booking type, whether that is Jet2.com flight only, Jet2holidays or a third party tour operator, the booking reference and a single total reimbursement amount.

Two mechanical points catch people out. The form wants the flight which was disrupted, and notes most bookings include two flights, so covering both legs needs a second form. And the flight date it wants is the one on your booking confirmation even if the flight was delayed overnight, not the date on the boarding pass you were eventually issued.

Payment arrives by bank transfer only, with a UK sort code and account number or an IBAN and SWIFT code, and the form states credit card details cannot be used. You can add up to seven additional passengers named on the same booking, excluding separate family groups, and anyone you claim for cannot then claim separately.

If you would rather write, the claims page publishes a postal route, EU261 Team, PO Box 284, Leeds LS11 1GE. Jet2 says it aims to contact you within 28 days and asks that you claim directly and allow it time to respond before engaging other parties on your behalf. Those parties keep a share, and one agency's fee shows how much.

What if Jet2 rejects my expenses claim?

There is a published escalation route and it costs nothing. Jet2 sends anyone unhappy with the outcome to the Civil Aviation Authority's Passenger Advice and Complaints Team, PACT, which reviews the case and contacts the airline directly if the decision should be looked at again.

PACT has an entry condition. The CAA's how the CAA can help page, read on 17 September 2026, says it may help once you have complained to an airline or airport in writing and are either unsatisfied with the outcome or have had no reply within 8 weeks. Jet2's own 28 day target sits inside that window, so the order is claim, wait, then escalate.

Flights departing Spain have a second door. Jet2 names AESA, the State Aviation Safety Agency of Spain, as a recognised dispute resolution body for claims under the Regulation, with appeals due within 1 year of the claim and the decision binding on the airline. None of it rescues a missing receipt though, because an adjudicator applies the same evidence rule the airline does. Questions about compensation

Does Jet2 accept bank statements as proof of purchase?

No. Jet2's delays and disruptions page, read on 17 September 2026, states that any claims must be supported by an itemised receipt and that it cannot accept bank statements as proof of purchase. A card slip showing only a total is not itemised either. Ask the merchant to reissue the itemised receipt or a VAT invoice instead.

What can I claim from Jet2 for a delayed flight?

Jet2 lists four claimable items, food and drink, overnight accommodation, a flight refund where the departure was delayed over 5 hours and you cancelled rather than travelled, and an alternative flight after a cancellation or denied boarding. It considers only reasonable costs incurred during the delay or while you wait for the earliest re-routing, and every line needs an itemised receipt.

Can I claim airport parking from Jet2 after a delay?

No. Car parking appears on Jet2's published list of expenses that cannot be claimed under the Regulation, alongside unused accommodation, child and pet care, missed events and loss of earnings. Jet2 directs all five to your travel insurer. Those are losses caused by the delay rather than costs of being delayed, which is why the right to care does not cover them.

I lost my Jet2 receipts, what can I do?

Claim the compensation anyway, because it needs the booking reference and boarding pass rather than receipts. For the expenses, ask the hotel or restaurant for a duplicate itemised receipt or a VAT invoice quoting the date and the card's last four digits. Send the bank statement only as backup to an itemised document, never in place of one.

What is the Jet2 EU261 team address?

EU261 Team, PO Box 284, Leeds LS11 1GE, published on Jet2's flight delay and cancellation claims page and read on 17 September 2026. The page still prefers the online form, and says Jet2 aims to contact you within 28 days. Use the postal route when you want a dated written record of the complaint before escalating.

How do I escalate a Jet2 claim to the CAA?

Jet2 points you to the CAA's Passenger Advice and Complaints Team. The CAA page, read on 17 September 2026, says PACT may help once you have complained to the airline in writing and are either unhappy with the answer or have had no reply within 8 weeks. For flights leaving Spain, AESA takes appeals within 1 year and its decision binds the airline.
